Why Verify Your Financial Adviser?

In Australia, anyone providing personal financial advice must hold an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) or be authorised by a licensee. Unregistered advisers operate outside the law and outside consumer protections.

Verifying registration takes 30 seconds and confirms: the adviser is currently authorised, which licensee they operate under, what qualifications they hold, and how long they've been providing advice.

The ASIC Financial Advisers Register is the official public record. Our site provides a fast, searchable interface to this data, updated weekly from data.gov.au.

What You Can Check

  • Current registration status (Active / Former / Banned)
  • Licensing authority (AFSL number & licensee name)
  • Qualifications and education credentials
  • Professional memberships (FPA, AFA, etc.)
  • Date first providing advice
  • Location (suburb, state, postcode)

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the official ASIC register?

No. We are an independent search tool that indexes public data from the ASIC Financial Advisers Register (available at data.gov.au). For official confirmation, visit ASIC's website directly at moneysmart.gov.au/check-register.

How current is the data?

Our database is refreshed weekly from the official ASIC data export. For real-time verification of a specific adviser's status, always cross-check with the official ASIC register.

What does "Registered" status mean?

A "Registered" adviser is currently authorised to provide personal financial advice under an AFSL. "Former" means their registration has lapsed or was surrendered. Advisers with banning orders will show a separate status.

My adviser isn't appearing — why?

Try searching by their adviser number (usually on their business card or statement of advice). Some advisers may not appear if they were recently registered or if their details aren't yet in the latest ASIC export.

How many advisers are in the register?

Australia currently has approximately 14526 active registered financial advisers. Numbers peaked above 25,000 in 2019 and declined significantly following the 2020 education and ethics reforms.

Can I report incorrect information?
